Antony is a passionate gardener with a strong horticultural & design background having worked in the family nursery and garden centre business since 1977. He has travelled to various countries including New Zealand and Australia where he studied flora and fauna in their native habitat.

Horticulture and nature have always been the main focus of Antony’s life. His father Hans pioneered one of the first garden centres in the UK back in 1963, The Dutch Nursery, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The business was further developed by Antony and his 5 siblings during the 80s and 90s and continues to thrive putting plants at centre stage.

His first introduction to television was as a Wildlife technical assistant/adviser for the BBC’s Natural History Unit working on a range of programmes, including David Attenborough’s “Life of Birds” and the BBC's "Kingfisher" series. Other projects include filming the giant monitor lizards and pythons with Nigel Marven and his team in the Kakadoo, National Park in Darwin Australia

Antony began his television presenting career working as “The Garden Doctor/The Garden Guru” for BBC Breakfast’s ‘Good Morning with Anne & Nick’. Since then, he has presented numerous gardening programmes on both TV and Radio including, “The Great Gardening Plot” and “Potted History” for The Discovery Channel and guest presented for “Gardener’s World” on BBC2.

Combining his extensive knowledge of horticulture and design, Antony established his own design company ‘Gardens for Life’ in Hertfordshire in 1998 which he continues to run, designing and building stunning gardens around the UK. One of his favourite projects was creating a very special oriental water garden for Sir Paul McCartney.

“Creating beautiful gardens is challenging and very satisfying but I had this ambition to share my passion for plants and gardening with people who had little or no experience. Around the same time I was asked to help with a school garden, which led to an idea of using bio-degradable paper as a guide to help the kids position their plants and get involved - that’s when Gardenonaroll was born!”

The team at Gardenonaroll now grow and nurture beautiful plants that are sent nationwide from their nursery in Hertfordshire, their aim being to encourage a new generation to get into gardening!

Antony and his team of passionate horticulturists are continuing to develop ‘Gardenonaroll’, working in partnership with Homebase providing first-time homeowners with their own professionally designed garden borders!
